Xtreme

X-Treme Scooters (XB-600 and XM-2000) are sold by many different dealers, but are all dropped shipped from Iowa. They have a bad reputation for shipping broken parts and not being responsive about fixing them. However, later reports indicate that this situation may be improving.

XB-600 $800 600w 48v-38ah 1824Wh
XM-2000 $2000 2000w 60v-38ah 2280Wh

The Point of View of an XM-2000 Owner and Dealer
by John Harding, Revolution EV

The bad reputation mentioned above appears to stem mostly from the fact that X-Treme also sells toy electric scooters starting as low as $150.  Unsurprisingly these value based models are not as robust as more capable models.  This has led to an unfortunate number of dissappointed customers.  When investigating the complaints cited in the above google search please be careful to determine the exact product that was purchased and is the source of the complaint.

In all cases that I know of the XM-2000 has either arrived without damage or X-Treme have promptly replaced all broken parts.  Note that these broken parts constitute cosmetic damage (the pretty plastic bits got dinged up).  As with any vehicle (even a $100K sports car) ocassionally a defective part is discovered.  Again, in the cases I know of, X-Treme has never hesitated in honoring the warranty and provided replacement parts to the owner.

I am very satisfied with my XM-2000.  I purchased it for $1500 plus $100 delivery.  Unfortunately the price has now been increased to approx. $2000.  No dealer should be selling this moped for less than that price.

It's a great ride!  It's quiet and it performs as well, if not better, than a 50cc moped.  The top speed is around 42mph.  That top speed doesn't seem to be much affected by weight - however acceleration is affected with increased weight.  Range is truly around 30 miles in good conditions (e.g. a "long out of town cruise at speeds of 30mph").  For stop and go traffic the range is reduced into the 20's (depending on how gentle you are with the throttle and how low you run the batteries).  If you want to ride in the low speed mode (top speed approx. 20 - 25mph) you might make over 40 mile range (sorry, I don't have the patience!).  I love riding it - mostly because I feel good about riding electric and taking a small step to reducing my oil consumption.

Pros:

  • one of the most affordable electric mopeds that is available now
  • good range (in real world conditions)
  • good top speed (in real world conditions)
  • a true "commuting capable" scooter (I commute 24 miles per day)

Cons:

  • a lot of negative press about X-Treme might make you worried
  • very few places that can offer a test ride before purchase
  • because electric mopeds are so new and because the definitions of a moped differ so much from state to state there can be problems registering it

I liked my XM-2000 so much that I decided to start selling them!  If you're interested in knowing more please don't hesitate to contact me via www.revevllc.com

I will be happy to try and answer any questions regardless of whether or not you buy from me.

Dealers

As far as I can tell, all Extreme scooters are drop shipped from Iowa. However, you should try to find a dealer that has a demo scooter that you can ride first before buying. Here are some dealers that offer test rides:
